How it Works

Argumentation.io is a pedagogically effective, user-friendly, and accessible argument mapping app. Argument maps are diagrams representing arguments, or chains of reasoning. Studies have shown that college courses that incorporate argument mapping are exceptionally effective at improving students' critical thinking skills, open-mindedness, essay writing, and recall of course content (sources). Argument mapping courses typically spend a few weeks focusing argument mapping and then map arguments from discipline-specific content. In addition to our app, we offer teaching materials to make it easier to incorporate argument mapping into college courses and to assign the Argumentation.io app to students.

Inference Boxes

Argumentation.io is the only argument mapping app that gives arguments' inferences their own boxes. This makes it easier to teach and learn about inferences, inference rules, objections to inferences, and objections to inference rules. It also lets teachers refer to inferences in explanations of other concepts, like the distinction between co-premises and independent reasons.
